The Quiet Elegance of French Press

Among countless brewing methods, the French Press stands out for its simple, elegant beauty. Step-by-Step Brewing Guide

Step 1: Measure and Grind

Weigh 20g of coffee beans. Grind coarse, to a consistency similar to sea salt. Uniform particle size ensures balanced extraction and harmonious flavor development.

Step 2: Preheat

Pour hot water into the French Press and let it stand briefly. This warms the glass and maintains the ideal brewing temperature. Discard the water before adding coffee.

Step 3: Heat Water

Heat clean water to 92–95°C. You will need approximately 240ml of water for 20g of coffee.

Step 4: Add Coffee

Place the French Press on your scale. Add the ground coffee and gently tap the vessel to create an even coffee bed.

Step 5: Pour and Bloom

Start your timer. Pour just enough water to saturate the grounds evenly. Let the coffee bloom for 45 seconds—this releases CO₂ and enhances aromatics. After blooming, slowly pour the remaining water until the level reaches about 2.5cm (1 inch) from the rim. Gently swirl the vessel. Place the lid and plunger on top (do not press yet). Let the coffee steep for 1 minute.

Step 6: Press

After 3 minutes total from the start, slowly and steadily press the plunger down. Avoid pressing too quickly to prevent agitating the grounds and creating bitterness.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy
