How To Brew Phin Vietnam

Process Overview


Phin filter is a coffee brewing tool most common and popular in Vietnam. which consists of a small cup, a filter chamber, and a lid that also functions as a container to catch dripping cups of exquisitely aromatic black coffee.

What you'll need


Phin Vietnam, Grinder, Kettle, Scale, Coffee, Spoon

Getting Started

Step 1


Measure 25 grams of freshly roasted coffee beans.

Grind coffee to the Medium – fine

Step 3


Swill Phin filter and your cup by boiling water, for 95 – 98 °C.

With 25 gram of ground coffee to 175ml water.

Step 4


Lift the filter press off the phin

Put coffee into the filter chamber.

Gently shake the phin to evenly distribute the coffee grounds.

Step 5


Put the filter press inside on top of the coffee

Twist on the filter plate until it is pressing against the ground coffee

Step 6


Pour 30ml of boiled water ( 95 – 98 °C) to  swell the coffee. Cover the cup by its cap, wait 45 seconds.

Then, pour 100ml of boiled water and cover the cup by its cap

Final, fill phin full with hot water

Remember to cover the cap after each pour.

Step 7


Your coffee will begin to drip slowly into your cup

Wait until the all the coffee drip out
