“Enjoying coffee is like contemplating a work of art — you must feel every brushstroke.” — Barista Blagu
Drinking coffee is simple.
But to truly appreciate coffee — to experience it as art — requires understanding, attention, and craft.
The Syphon brewing method is one of the most beautiful and fascinating ways to make coffee. It allows you to watch the entire extraction process unfold — using the principle of reverse osmosis under heat and pressure. The rising and falling of the liquid, the bloom of aroma, and the clarity of movement make it not only a method of brewing but a performance of flavor and light.
For anyone who loves coffee, the Syphon is a must-have — a symbol of patience, elegance, and sensory discovery.
Process Overview
The Syphon uses heat to create vapor pressure, pushing hot water upward to meet the coffee grounds. After steeping, the pressure drops, pulling the brewed coffee back down — leaving you with a clean, aromatic, and beautifully balanced cup.
It’s a method that brings both science and beauty together — precision and poetry in every motion.

Barista Blagu’s Syphon Ratio: 1:10
Step 1: Grind the Coffee
According to Barista Blagu, coffee brewed with the Syphon should be medium or medium-dark roast for a rich, balanced cup.
Weigh 30 g of coffee and grind to a medium-fine consistency.
If you have a sifter, it’s recommended to sift the coffee grounds to remove fine dust — this helps reduce bitterness in the final brew.
Step 2: Rinse the Syphon and the Filter
Rinse the Syphon with hot water before brewing to let the glass adjust to the heat.
Soak the cloth filter in hot water for about 2 minutes.
This step cleans the filter, removes any unwanted fabric odors, and prepares it for smooth brewing.
Step 3: Attach the Filter
You’ll find a metal chain and hook attached to the filter.
Insert the hook into the bottom of the upper chamber’s tube and make sure it’s secured properly.
Step 4: Add Water and Heat the Lower Chamber
You can use warm water to save time.
Turn on your alcohol burner or mini stove to start heating.
Pour about 300 ml of mineral water into the lower bulb of the Syphon.
Place the upper chamber at a slight angle on top so it can warm gradually with the rising steam.
Step 5: Brewing
Wait until the water in the lower chamber boils and rises into the upper one.
Once the water has fully ascended, add the ground coffee.
The water in the bottom tank is boiling.
Water flows back up to the top of the bottle.
Put in the coffee
Use the Syphon stir stick to stir gently for about 15 seconds, ensuring all coffee grounds are evenly saturated.
After stirring, cover the top chamber with its lid and let the coffee steep for about 1 minute.
Then turn off the heat source and allow the coffee to draw back down into the lower chamber completely.
When the draw-down is done, remove the upper chamber, attach it to its holder, and set aside.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Pour the coffee into your cup and enjoy the pure, refined flavor extracted from the Syphon.
Note: Coffee brewed with a Syphon is very hot — please handle the equipment carefully while brewing.
The Syphon is not just brewing — it’s performance. Fire, water, glass, and air come together to craft a cup that feels alive. To watch it brew is to watch beauty form before your eyes. At Blagu, we see this as a dialogue between science and soul — the perfect blend of art, patience, and heat.
